Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites Recipe
Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites
I spent some time watching videos with my daughter over the holiday break and a couple hilarious cooking videos inspired us to try pretzel bites. Watching he Try Guys – four men who will dare do ANYTHING, including baking bagels – made us think hey, we can do something like this! So we got to work blending a couple different recipes from grandma, to see if we could create warm, sugary pretzel bites. I have to say, I think we nailed it on the first try!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites Ingredients:
- 1 individual packet of quick rise yeast ( it’s roughly 1 tbsp)
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 3 1/4 cups flour
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 1/8-1/4 cup baking soda
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
Frosting Dip Ingredients:
- 3 oz cream cheese, softened
- 3 tbsp butter, softened
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tbsp cinnamon
Pretzel Bite Preparation:
- Mix yeast, warm water, and brown sugar in a small bowl and set aside for 10 minutes
- In a large bowl, mix flour and yeast mixture, then knead by hand or with your mixer for approximately 10 minutes
- In a slightly oiled bowl, place your dough smooth side up and cover for 20 minutes
- Lightly flour a surface and lay your dough down, patting it with slight pressure to expand its width slightly
- Cut the dough into strips, then into bite-sized squares or rectangles
- Cover your bites for 5-7 minutes
- Pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees
- Bring your water and baking soda to a boil
- Place a handful of bites into the water at a time, gently stirring and flipping them for roughly 1 minute before removing
- Place your bites on a baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes, turning them over halfway through
- Mix together your sugar and cinnamon, adding more as desired
- Brush all sides of your cooled bites with melted butter
- Roll bites in your cinnamon sugar mixture
Frosting Preparation:
- Mix all 4 ingredients together and blend until smooth
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve with your bites
Best Pretzel Bite Recipe Tips
While it’s a pretty straightforward recipe, here are a few of our best tips for making these delicious pretzel bites. Luckily, we couldn’t fit all our bites on one tray in the oven, so we separated bites that were smaller, and placed them on a second tray. I only reduced the baking time by a minute or less, keeping an eye on them to become a light golden brown.
I also recommend using a large pot when boiling your water and baking soda. If you choose a medium size, just reduce your baking soda to the 1/8 cup.
I use parchment paper when baking my bites. It makes clean-up so much easier, since I brush them with butter while still on the parchment paper-lines trays.
Tasty Cinnamon Pretzel Bite Variations
We left a couple bites for experimental purposes. Since we didn’t use salt in our dough, we don’t recommend them plain. You may like them but it was a big no for us! However, brushed with butter with a light sprinkling of salt was pretty tasty.
You can also roll them in powdered sugar for sweet, fluffy bites. And, if you’re a chocolate lover, dip the powdered sugar bites in chocolate syrup instead of the cream cheese frosting.
Let us know how yours turn out and what fun toppings and dips you try!
