Birthday Mug Cakes
The kids and I celebrated my birthday yesterday, and while I refuse to get older, I still enjoy birthday cakes! Since it’s just the three of us, having a huge cake on my birthday isn’t necessary, so I thought celebrating with birthday mug cakes was perfect. Plus, they are quick, easy, and fun to make with kids of any age!
What You’ll Need for Birthday Mug Cakes:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup milk
- a touch of food coloring if you like
- favorite sprinkles
- favorite frosting
PREPARATION:
- Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl until batter is smooth and sprinkles are evenly dispersed.
- Fill each coffee mug roughly halfway. The batter will give you enough to make four mug cakes.
- Microwave your mug cake for 1 minute, 20 seconds each.
- Allow a few minutes to cool before decorating with frosting and more sprinkles!
Decorating Buffet for Kids
I think the best part for your kids or grandkids is the decorating. This is a great dessert recipe and so much fun for sleepovers, afterschool snacks, and birthday parties. Set up a buffet style area with all the toppings your kiddos may love. Along with various shapes and colors of sprinkles, don’t forget kids love m & m’s and gummy worms on their treats!
Set out different frosting choices or cool whip in colors. You can even add chocolate, caramel, and butterscotch syrups to the buffet table! It’s going to get a little messy but they’ll have so much fun!
