Smoked Sausage and Shrimp Bowtie
Smoked sausage is great in so many recipes and I love whipping up a spicy smoked sausage and shrimp sauté when I’m craving something with extra flavor. You can toss in your favorite veggies or add in chicken for extra protein. It’s delicious no matter what you blend with it!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 tbsp garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 lb smoked sausage
- 1/2 lb shrimp
- 1/4 cup onions, sliced
- 1/4 cup cherry tomatoes, thick slices
- 1 box/bag bow tie pasta
- Shredded parmesan cheese to garnish
Preparation:
- Prepare your pasta, boiling for approximately 7-8 minutes until done
- In a medium sauté pan, heat oil and garlic for 1 minute
- Add in sausage and begin to lightly brown
- Halfway through browning your sausage, add in onions and continue to sauté for2-3 minutes
- Add in shrimp and tomatoes and sauté on low until shrimp is pink, then remove from heat
- Drain pasta and return to pot, adding in butter and mixing with seasonings
- Add sauté mixture to your pasta, blend, and serve
Cooking Tips
Smoked sausage can tend to be a bit salty on its own so I like to taste my dish after adding a pinch of salt, then adding additional salt to taste. Alternatively, you could season your sauté mixture but I find it blends throughout the pasta more evenly if I save my seasoning for the bow tie at the end. If you choose to use large shrimp or prawns, add them in just prior to your tomatoes, avoiding overcooking them.
It’s a dish full of rich flavors and you can’t go wrong adding in your favorite vegetables, so sauté away!
