NanaHood’s Summertime Punch

Summertime punch

There are somethings you never forget. One of them is the way your parent’s handwriting looked. My mom has been gone since 1980 but the sight of her handwriting never fails to make me miss her. I keep her box of recipes in my kitchen and some of them are typed, or torn out of a magazine, but occasionally there will be a handwritten one.

Mom was a great cook and hostess. She and her friends were always giving wedding showers or baby showers.

A constant at every shower was punch. Mom had a silver punch bowl, ladle and cups and it was at every special event I ever attended and many that I didn’t. That’s because her friends borrowed it and used it at parties too. I have so many precious memories of the punch bowl and those showers, the brides and babies they celebrated.

While looking through Mom’s recipe box this morning I found her punch recipe. She called it Judy’s Punch because that’s who told her how to make it. I renamed it NanaHood’s Summertime Punch (Sorry cousin Judy, hope you don’t mind).

You don’t have to get out a fancy punch bowl or be giving a shower to celebrate or to make Nana’s Summertime Punch.

Sometimes it’s just fun to celebrate summer and all the fun things that go with it.

Yesterday I took 3 of my grandchildren to the pool. The 5 year old boy is part fish. I asked him if he knew how to float on his back and he said that he didn’t. I gave him a short lesson and literally within minutes he was swimming around the pool on his back!

Thought you might enjoy seeing what I mean by him being part fish!

Why not put some “Summertime Punch” in your summer celebrations!
