Tres Leches Cake Recipe
Our sweet tooth has returned now that summer vacation is in full swing here. This week, my daughter wanted to try a tres leches cake. While the kids have had it before, they were pretty young and couldn’t remember the delicious sweet flavors a tres leches cake offers. While I am the first to admit mine do not come out that pretty, I promise you, it’s delicious nonetheless! So, if you’re looking for an easy dessert recipe to throw together, this one is perfect.
What Is a Tres Leches Cake?
Tres leches means Three milks in spanish. Tres leches cake is a very moist, milk-soaked dessert that can be topped with just about anything…or nothing but the whipped topping! Try it with a dash of cinnamon and you may think it’s like snacking on a Starbucks iced chai tea latte. While three blends of milk may sound heavy, it’s actually a nice light dessert.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
- 1 box white or yellow cake mix (usually requiring eggs and vegetable oil)
- 3-4 tbsp sugar
- 16oz heavy whipping cream
- 1- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 – 14 oz can evaporated milk
- 8 oz whole or 2% milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- fruit for toppings
Preparation:
- Prepare your cake according to mix instructions, then allow to cool a bit
- Use a fork to poke holes through the entire cake.
- Mix together you three milks.
- Pour your milk mixture over the entire cake, allowing it to absorb through the holes and sides of the cake.
- Cover with saran wrap and allow to chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
- Whip your heavy cream n sugar on medium high until stiff peaks form.
- Once cake has chilled to your liking, spread the whipped topping over the cake and add your fruit toppings.
It’s really that easy to throw this tres leches cake recipe together! Have fun creating your own flavors with different toppings too and let us know what you come up with!
