Vanilla Buttercream Frosting Recipe
With the kids on holiday break, I have a little extra “help” with recipe ideas. Lots of coaxing from my daughter to try yummy new foods she’s finding online. Recently, she came across an adorable strawberry cake posted here on Tik Tok. I had been toying around trying to perfect a buttercream frosting so this cake was a great opportunity (or excuse) to do some more experimenting!
Strawberry Cake
To keep it simple, I used a box of strawberry cake mix. For a bit of extra flavor, I pureed a handful of strawberries to add to the mix. Since the frosting was my focus, I wasn’t too concerned about my cake proportions, so I used a regular 9″ round cake pan and split the cake in half after baking and cooling.
Vanilla Buttercream Frosting
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
Preparation:
- In your mixer, blend your butter with half of the powdered sugar and mix until you have a smooth consistency
- Add in your cream and vanilla and continue to mix
- Slowly add in the remaining powdered sugar and mix until completely smooth
Buttercream Variations
I decided to set aside a small amount of frosting to play with as my cake was baking. I added a bit more cream to a small portion of the frosting to play with the consistency. I then added a bit of my strawberry puree for flavor and color. Not too bad! But I did stick with my original bowl for this particular cake. It was the perfect consistency to work with and delicious enough without the puree to satisfy everyone!
We’d love to hear what you use this creamy buttercream frosting recipe for!
