For What It’s Worth

Remember a few weeks ago I told you about a television show that my boys watch called Swamp People?  There’s another one they are addicted to as well, Pawn Stars.

On this show several men run a pawn store and people bring in items to pawn or sell. Items range from old puppets to a cannon supposedly used on Magnum P.I. (television show from the 80’s).

It’s a little more understandable to me as to why the boys like this show than the other one. In a way it reminds me Antiques Road Show or American Pickers (another addicting one). It’s fun to see what people bring in and then to find out if it’s actually worth anything or not.

We have an old log cabin we are trying to sell and we have listed it on Craig’s List. We’ve had people from several different states calling us about it. My husband patiently gives the callers details and answers their questions.

The other night one of our boys over heard my husband negotiating with a man from Tennessee about the cabin. When he got off the phone he said, “Dad, I really think you need to let me start answering the phone and talking to people about the cabin.”

“Really,” Bill said, “And why is that?”

“Well, I’ve been watching a lot of Pawn Stars lately….”

If you haven’t watched Pawn Stars and you decide to tune in, be prepared for lots of beeps. Evidently their mom didn’t know the trick about washing a child’s mouth out with soap when they use foul language.

  1. laughing at this! lol I’ve never heard of Pawn Stars but the name got my attention. i guess that was their intention. There is something about all these reality shows that are addicting. My kids love Billy the Exterminator. Hubs likes Dirty Jobs, there are just so many out these days. Anyway – I’m following you from Stalk Hop Friday. I’m looking forward to reading more from you. Have a good weekend.

  3. Hi, Theresa,

I happen to love Pawn Stars, too. HA! The old man is just hilarious sometimes, even though he also has a potty mouth. 🙁 One of my favorite lines from him was after somebody brought in a piece that was associated with a popular horror movie. Later, he was questioning why people like horror movies. He said, “If you like horror, just have a couple of kids.” LOL!
