Starry Nights

Do you ever have those nights when you wake up at two or three in the morning and no matter how hard you try to go back to sleep, you can’t? Well, I had one of those last night.

Every thought and worry from the day, the week, the month, suddenly knocked on my brain door and said, “I’m coming in whether you want me to or not!” And they did.

I tossed and turned and listened to my husband snore while I considered my options.

(1) Late night televsion. It was two in the morning and I knew there wasn’t anything on except someone trying to sell other insomniacs something they didn’t need. No thank you.

(2) A bowl of cereal. Sometimes that works. I eat a bowl and eventually it makes me sleepy and I can go back to sleep, but I had a huge supper complete with a piece of pecan pie and just could not justify eating in the middle of the night.

(3) Turning on the computer.  I spend so much time at work and free time at home on the computer that dare I say it? I had computer burnout and no desire to spend some one on one time with my lap top.

With all my regular options out of the way I decided to go outside and look at the stars. I walked out on the back deck and looked up at the sky and it was absolutely breathtaking. The air was cool and crisp. The sky inky black with a dusting of stars that sparkled like diamonds.

There’s nothing like looking up at a beautiful sky to remind you of the power of our maker. It was almost as if he was looking down at me saying, “Go back to bed Teresa. I made the universe. I can handle your worries.”

And so I did.
