Duck Dynasty and a Poodle
Last night was a big night at our house. In case you didn’t know it was the premiere of season #3 of Duck Dynasty. As the mom of 4 boys who loves sports, ESPN has been the channel of choice for years at our house. If I want to watch Dancing With The Stars or NCIS I usually go to my room. The one show we can all agree on is Duck Dynasty.
My husband liked it first, so much that I would walk through the room and hear the same lines over and over. “Haven’t you already seen this one,” I asked. “Yes,” he would answer, “but it’s still funny.”
“What’s Si up to this time?” I asked.
“He’s eating racoon poop.”
Okay, you just have to watch the show to understand why that’s so funny.
A Different Kind of Reality Television
Here are a few reasons why I think the show is so popular.
1. It’s refreshing to see a show where the family members obviously love and respect each other.
2. They are a praying, God-fearing, church-going people. When’s the last time you saw a reality television show where the family prayed together? I can’t think of one, if you can let me know.
3. There’s no cursing or nudity. The most risqué thing that goes on is Phil reminding Miss Kay of her Biblical duties as a wife and her telling Phil that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness and that he has to take a bath and de-stink if he wants her attention. It works, Phil bathes and Miss Kay says, “And that, ladies, is how it’s done.”
4. Uncle Si is one of those people you love to love because he’s just a little bit crazy- in a good way. Miss Kay says, “If he were a dog we’d have to put him down.” I wouldn’t go that far but he is different. For me the highlight of the season opener was Si going to purchase a hunting dog and coming home with a poodle. Did you know poodles were retrievers? Me either!
5. The men are men and the women are women. I don’t think I need to explain that one.
6. Watching my husband watch the show and smile and laugh makes me, “Happy, Happy, Happy.” Life is short and some days are intense. It’s nice to share a laugh with someone you love.
Those are my Thursday Thoughts for today. What are yours? Link up and let me know. This is Thursday Thoughts blog hop!

Interesting Julie! thanks for commenting!
Thanks so much, Jann! I agree with you and would love to have seen your son on Halloween!
Duck Dynasty is our families favorite show. It’s keeps you laughing as well as teaches some valuable life lessons. My oldest son dressed as Phil for Halloween. Oh my gosh he made me split a gut. I laughed about the racoon poop. I did a post around Christmas and mentioned that same episode in it. I also have used Phils famous quote on Share Your Cup. Happ, happy, happy! Also love that they end wtih the family gathered at the table in prayer. Thanks so much for sharing with SYC. I will note your party and see if I can do a post to share now and then.
hugs,
Jann
Thanks for stopping by!
With you on the raccoon poop, but when you get to know the characters it helps you understand it!
Being without young children, have to say I’ve never heard of Duck Dynasty. I doubt it’ll make my viewing list. . . not really into “eating raccoon poop.” 🙂
My husband watches it sometimes and will be laughing but I just haven’t thought much about watching it. Maybe I will give it a try sometime. What you wrote gives me a reason to actually want to do it and maybe that it is worth my time.
Thank you for sharing this with us for this weeks Theme Thursday. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and you get to watch one of these shows.
God bless.
You should! It’s fun after you get to know the characters!
Maybe like me because they didn’t know that. I think of Poodles as prissy show dogs and I think Si and Phil did too. Thanks for telling me this! I appreciate it and will do some more research and might even right about it. I love learning things I didn’t know. Thanks again for commenting!
Thanks Jane!
I stay bewildered about television. Most of it is trash! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
I saw a commercial for it for the first time yesterday and while I was bewildered at the things they’re putting on TV these days I was also intrigued lol.
Thank you for hosting! New follower on Facebook!

Just a fun fact but the poodle was actually bred to be a retriever and many hunters use them for that today. I didn’t really understand why Phil and si were making fun of it.
Interesting. I’ve never seen Duck Dynasty, but you make me want to check it out.

Thanks for hosting. It is the first time I am linking up. I have never seen Duck Dynasty. Take care and have a great weekend.
Love Duck Dynasty. Fun to watch.
I occasionally can find the channel its on and I laugh hysterically over their antics. I will have to look for the poodle episode. They are a hard working family.
Thank you for the invitation ~ I created this post especially for your link up 🙂

Hi Teresa! I’ve never heard of Duck Dynasty! I think that’s because I rarely have the remote in this house!
Why don’t you stop by and link up your party with my party? There’s no rules as to what you can and can’t link up 🙂

Thanks for hosting the Link Up! Love your blog! Can’t comment on Duck Dynasty, I’ve never seen it 🙁
I am so glad to hear that you watch and actually enjoy Duck Dynasty. I was embrassed to tell that I have just started watching it and now addicted to watching it. I couldn’t figure out why I liked it but I think your “Thursday Thoughts” hit the nail on the head. It’s like modern day Beverly Hillbillies, it literaly takes your mind off of the craziness and sadness of the daily world. I can now hold my head high to my mother and say “if Mrs. Teresa Kindred watches Duck Dynasty, it must be ok!” LOL!
