This Antique Nana Prefers Antiques Roadshow

I can’t remember the last time I posted twice in one day, but I know it has been awhile. So why not just wait until tomorrow to post again? Because I have a bee in my bonnet (bet you haven’t heard that phrase in awhile).

It’s Monday night and I can’t find anything on television worth watching. I can’t stand The Bachelor.  The idea of finding true love on television while you compete with 30 other girls for one guy they don’t even know  just doesn’t make sense to me.  I can’t talk to my my husband…he fell asleep two hours ago. My teenage sons have friends over and hanging out with mom is probably not at the top of their list of things to do. I tried reading, but my mind is wandering all over the place.

Why not try a different channel on television (other than the one I usually watch), I think to myself, and so I tried.

The first comedy I tried (How I Met Your Mother) had two characters talking about something they shouldn’t have been talking about. I switched to Antiques Roadshow and watched a lady find out her very ugly jewelry was worth a big amount of money. Then I went back to the other channel to see if things had improved. There was a man and a woman (both half dressed) making jokes about their love life. Back to Antiques Roadshow. This time a guy found out a really ugly painting was worth a lot of money. Personally, I would pay someone NOT to hang the painting in my house, but to each his own.

The next show that is supposed to come on is Two and A Half Men, but I don’t think it’s airing tonight because Mr. Sheen is in rehab (again).  Even if it was on, I wouldn’t watch it either. I’ve seen parts of it before and it’s disgusting.

I know these shows are fiction but to me they don’t speak well about our culture.

If I lived in a different country and watched American sitcoms I would think that all Americans ever think about is sex. Surely to goodness there are writers out there who can write television shows that are decent and have more substance than the ones I saw tonight.

Okay, I’m getting off my soap box and turning back to Antiques Roadshow.

I wonder what I could get for that ugly painting up in my attic?

  1. My favorite part of the day is in the afternoon—reruns of “Little House on the Prairie” make a great background for whatever task I’m working on…and I usually get a few smiles and sometimes a little tear……
