For My Daughter on Mother’s Day

For My Daughter

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and truthfully, I always get a little sad on Mother’s Day because I miss my own mom so much. But this year as I was mentally preparing myself for Mother’s Day I realized there was someone who deserved a huge “shout out” as a mom…..my daughter.

For my daughter

My daughter, Rachel, is like a lot of young moms, paddling upstream as fast as she can and trying to keep her nose above the pile of dirty laundry that shrinks and expands but never goes away. With three young children and a full time job she handles everything with kindness and grace.

But this pandemic is hard on moms.

Rachel’s two oldest children were accustomed to going to school and coming home for play time, supper, bath, reading a book, saying their prayers and bed time. Now when Mommy gets home they have to find time to squeeze in “school.”

Rachel and moms all across the country are juggling more plates than ever before. Motherhood is hard but motherhood, plus work, plus school is even harder.

The End of the Day

By late afternoon energy levels are waning and after a full day of work, overseeing little children’s school work is an unexpected add on. Anytime you change a child’s routine it’s stressful, but when you change everyone’s routine….things can get crazy. We haven’t talked about it a lot but I know, just like every mother knows, there are days when you think, “I can’t squeeze in one more thing on my to-do list!”

To every mom out there who feels like she’s hanging on by a thread…..you are important! What you are doing matters so very much. While your children may not tell you “thank you” now or understand how many hats you wear, they will understand one day. Hang in there. Keep pressing forward and know that you are loved!

There’s a poem being passed around Facebook about Mothers called “When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking.” In case you haven’t read it, I’m including it here. It’s a great example of how moms teach by example.

for my daughter

Rachel

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw the love on your face for your child and my heart swelled because one of life’s best moments, is watching your baby love her baby.

for my daughter

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw the dark circles under your eyes and I knew that with or without enough sleep you still manage to do the zillion things you do every day.

Happy Mother’s Day

I know it’s a little early but when you become a mom, every day is really Mother’s Day. Don’t ever wonder if you are enough or if you are a good mom…because you are.

It’s written all over their sweet faces.

  1. Ah yes, but what about holding your baby’s baby’s baby??? Yep, I’m a great-grandmother now and our Daniella is adorable. Our youngest is 9 and we thought he was the last baby…. NOT! My oldest daughter has a son that’s 9, but my youngest son has a daughter who was 19 and had a baby girl. Daniella Marie and she’s adorable. Our family is getting so big that I’m going to have to start writing things down so I don’t forget. Aughhh I hope all is well with you. Stay healthy. Stay Safe….. STAY HOME!

  2. Thank you, Mom! I learned it all from you when you thought I wasn’t looking!
    Love you more,
    Rachel

  3. That’s a beautiful letter to your daughter. My oldest daughter is also a mother and it’s been such a delight watching her mother her two little girls!

  4. Try Pinterest, Lydia. There’s a board there for everything! Thanks for commenting my friend!

  5. Thanks, Mitch! And I have four more lovely grandchildren. Being a mom was fun but being a nana rocks!
    Stay safe my friend!

  6. That is such a cute and sweet family photo of the kids. You’re right and I do think sooner or later we realize what people in our lives have done for us. I can’t imagine having three kids or one during this and holding down a full time job on top of it all. Just this morning I thought about what I’m making my mother to eat today and am leaning toward hot dogs rather than the pork tenderloin I had planned. I’m so exhausted. Hoping you and your family are safe and well.

  7. Oh the joys and stresses of motherhood! Congrats on the latest little! Such a sweet thing! Will send a prayer Rachel’s way. Thanks for hosting and God bless!

  8. So very true! I see my daughter and daughter-in-law working from home and doing online conference calls and seminars, while also helping the grandchildren do online school assignments, and then cook dinner for the family, etc. They are handling to with grace but look forward to going back to a normal routine again one day.

  9. What a lovely post! It is going to hard this Mother’s day and I’m trying to work out what to do to make it special to mum, as we can’t see her – My daughter works in a fast food restaurant so I think that makes us high risk as carriers (and my husband is still having meetings with people). So have a few ideas. Just looking for the right one!
