Don’t Quit
I hope all of you had a great weekend. Today is Inspire Me Monday at a friend’s blog so I thought I would participate and talk about something that is inspirational. Of course you know that here at NanaHood it’s my granddaughters that most often inspire me.
Abby’s birthday was in August and we bought her a piñata and filled it with candy. If you have ever watched children try to burst a pinata you know that it isn’t easy. This short video shows what happens when you give a child an old pool cue, blindfold them and point them in the general direction of the piñata.
Not sure who had the most fun but I’m thinking it was Abby’s Aunt Rachel and Uncle Gabe (it’s them you hear laughing).
Warning: This video may make you dizzy with all the movement. Also, be sure and watch the dog run for cover!
This little video and Abby’s determination reminded me of a poem that my mother had framed and kept all her life called, “Don’t Quit.” All of us have times when the easiest thing to do would be to give up. If you are reading this and you are discouraged about a relationship, life, your job, etc. I hope this poem will encourage you to keep your chin up and keep trying!
And by the way, Abby did eventually get the candy!
Don’t Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
