Spicy Shrimp Sushi Tower
Shrimp Sushi Tower
Let’s talk sushi. Since my kids were itty bitty, Japanese food has always been a family favorite. We started them off young with a warm bowl of miso soup and steamed rice, while we enjoyed our sushi. As they grew up, they were as hooked as we were. And with months of sheltering at home, making our own sushi dishes has become a pretty good substitution.
Sushi Misconceptions
There are many people who automatically think RAW FISH when they hear the word sushi. But, that’s not the case. There are plenty of delicious cooked sushi options. With a homemade sushi tower, you can use your imagination and create a dish your taste buds are craving!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of steamed rice
- 1/8 cup cucumbers, diced
- 1/2 avocado, diced
- 12-15 medium frozen shrimp
- Siracha Mayo (or combine 1 cup of mayo with desired amount of your favorite hot sauce)
Preparation:
- Thaw shrimp and remove tails
- Dice shrimp, avocado, and cucumber while rice is cooking
- Mix shrimp and Siracha mayo, using a desirable amount according to taste
- With a small, shallow bowl, or large ramekin, scoop and pack rice, then flip onto a small plate
- Scoop a layer of desired amount of spicy shrimp onto top of rice
- Mix or layer an avocado and cucumber layer on top of your shrimp
- Top with extra Siracha sauce and serve
Additional Sushi Tower Topping Ideas
Sushi towers are also delicious with crab, scallops, and salmon, whether mixed on one tower, or separately. It’s such a flavorful dish and depending on the amount of rice you use, they can be pretty filling. In fact, they are great as an appetizer or a meal.
I also recommend mixing your seafood and mayo layer , adding extra Siracha mayo, then popping it in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes. It creates a warm, gooey layer you will LOVE! Then top your rice in layers as usual.
