Spaceships, Stamps, and Gas Cards

I bought a stamp at the Post Office this morning, and when I couldn’t get it to stick to the letter I accused the lady of selling me a defective stamp. She took the stamp, wiped it off, peeled the adhesive paper off the back and stuck it on my letter. My face burned. How embarrassing! It’s been years since people licked postage stamps!

I left the post office and went to the gas station. I got out of my vehicle and scanned my card on the pump to get my three-cents-a-gallon discount. The scanner didn’t work so I tried again….and again…and again. I must have tried 10 times before I gave up and went for help. The man who works there left his cubicle and followed me to the pump. He took my card from me and looked at me with a puzzled expression on his face.“This isn’t a gas card. It’s a grocery store card. It won’t pay for your fuel.”Feeling even more foolish, I went home to spend some quality time with my granddaughter. She wasn’t in the best of moods, so to entertain her I donned a headband with blue bunny ears that I had given her last year for Easter….then I forgot to take it off. When the UPS man delivered a package, he looked at me like I had just stepped off a spaceship. Maybe I have.

I blame my antics on the fact that I am always distracted. Like most folks these days, I’m “plugged in” 24 hours a day. If my cell phone or house phone isn’t ringing I have a permanent mental list of at least 20 things I need to do throughout the day. If I finish that—which I never do—I have more items waiting to be tackled.

The only way I know to be less distracted is to unplug myself—turn off all the gadgets in my life and go somewhere where no one knows me and there aren’t a million things I need to do.

Anyone else want to unplug?

Those are my Thursday Thoughts. What are yours? Grab my button and link up below. Let us know what you are thinking, just keep it family friendly!

  1. That is too funny! I can’t remember the last time I licked a stamp. They all have adhesive backing now. I’ve had my days too, when I just can’t do anything. Thanks for the laugh.

  3. Thank you for inviting me to link up with you!

Don’t be too hard on yourself, we all have to manage multiple distractions… and I’m surprised we aren’t all out with bunny ears on, trying to swipe grocery cards at the gas station!

Wishing you a happy weekend with minimal distractions 🙂

  4. I’m about to unplug for a week. I’m going on a cruise! And Internet access is 75 cents a minute, so I’m not even taking my laptop. And I won’t be on my phone because of roaming charges. So I’ll be well and truly unplugged!

  5. My entire weekend was like that! I had to take a washer and dryer to my mom in Louisiana… needless to say, keep your eyes open for a future post about road trips to Baton Rouge (a 6 hour drive) with my ADHD child in the truck! Some days just make you wonder why you even got up! Thank you so much for you blog and for the follow. I’m drinking my coffee and chaos and I are having a nice chat 🙂 LOL! See you soon as I am now following you. http://www.feelingtheemptynest.blogspot.com

  6. We all have those days, but looking back it’s rather funny no? I guess it’s part of ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’ which is easier said than done 🙂 I am sending some camellia your way 🙂 Thank you for sharing and hosting the party.

  7. What a lovely post. If I had any thoughts going through my head at the moment I’d write them down and join in this linky. Too bad that I don’t.
    Never mind. Maybe next time….

  8. Too funny….the stamp not sticky? That’s ok thought we all do something dumb. One time I’d stopped into my cell phone provider’s store to ask a question and the man who was helping me was looking at my phone…..anyway. I’d turned it off. then when i went to turn it back on, it would come up! Oh great that guy at the store did something to it….I complained to my husband while we were eating our Subway sandwiches at the mall. Then I realized I’d pushed the wrong button. It helps to push the right button. Mine turns on and off with the red button that you end calls on. The green button is the one to accept or call….go figure! It’s only Wednesday here but I answered your Thursday Thoughts question. I hope it won’t confuse you! 🙂
