Snug Hollow Bed and Breakfast – The Perfect Place to Get Away From It All
Snug HollowÂ
A long time ago I ran across a place called Snug Hollow Bed and Breakfast on the Internet and I’ve been intrigued with it ever since. Located near Berea, Kentucky we only had to travel a couple of hours to get there. When Bill and I celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary I called to see if they had a vacancy, they didn’t that weekend but they had a cancelation in a couple of weeks and I grabbed it. I can’t begin to tell you all the things I loved about it so I will try and show you with pictures.
The heart of a Bed and Breakfast is the kitchen and this one was busy morning and night. Guests have the option of vegetarian dining on site at night too, as well as a delicious breakfast.
There are two gardens at Snug Hollow and a lot of the food either comes from their farm or from neighboring farms. Wherever it came from….it was delicious! The blueberry pancakes were awesome! FYI-Barbara (the owner) has a cook book for sale and it’s full of wonderful recipes.
We stayed in the main house, which is huge but there are several cabins available to rent as well. This cabin is from the 1800’s but was added on to and made bigger in later years. I was allowed to tour it and it was beautiful.
This is a shot from the upstairs in the main house. Our suite was upstairs and I loved everything about the house. It was decorated to perfection. Attention to detail was evident in every room.
I love stained glass and took a class once on how to make it. I loved the class but my neck and shoulders didn’t. So when I see stained glass I always stop and admire it. It takes time, talent and patience to make it! Isn’t this piece beautiful?
This is the library located right outside our suite. There were so many neat nooks and crannies to read a book or just sit and relax. The one thing you won’t find in the house or any of the cabins….televisions. Did I miss it? Not a bit!
The biscuits were phenomenal and the homemade jams and jellies were to die for! My favorite was blackberry, but there was strawberry and apple butter as well.
There are lots of walking trails at Snug Hollow and we enjoyed going for a walk after breakfast even though it was a little warm and humid.
I loved the pond and walked around walked it several times to get different shots. It’s right behind one of the cabins and so beautiful. And if you get tired of walking there are lots of great spots to sit and just enjoy the view.
Our supper consisted of a delicious salad with their own homemade dressing and bowtie pasta with snap peas and veggies. I didn’t clean my plate but it was only because I was so full from breakfast and lunch. A girl can only eat so much, even when it’s delicious!
We went into Berea and stopped in several shops and a pizza place. The pizza was so good we went back the nest day and took some home with us. The whole family loved it.
The Berea community (just about 30 minutes down the road from Snug Hollow) is known for its arts and crafts and the stores were so much fun to browse through. I even purchased a few early Christmas gifts.
Another fun thing about staying at a bed and breakfast is the interesting people you meet. The owner and hostess, Barbara, was on vacation but Olivia was there to meet and greet us and she was such a sweet lady with true southern charm. We dined with a couple from Oregon, one from Lexington and another from Louisville. The overall consensus about why Snug Hollow is so special is that you are disconnected from society (no televisions) and so far off the beaten path (miles down a little gravel road) that you can really relax and do nothing without feeling pressed to take part in all the amenities hotels and resorts include. As a gentleman from Louisville said, “It’s a wonderful place to do nothing! At home I never get to read a book without interruptions. I bring books with me and just enjoy the quiet.”
Whether it’s going for a long walk on a hiking trail, reading in your cabin, or eating homemade biscuits and jelly, there’s so much to love about Snug Hollow. If you need a retreat from reality I encourage you to check out Snug Hollow online and call Barbara or Olivia and book a reservation soon. We were able to go because someone canceled (thank you whoever you are). I promise you are going to love it!

How dreamy! That library room is just what I’d love. I think that the location is picturesque. I am sure you enjoyed your celebration. Congratulations. My husband and I were high school sweethearts. We started going steady in 1981 and married in 1986.
Be blessed!

What a beautiful place to stay. Very nice. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
What an enjoyable getaway! I like staying at B&B’s as it feels as if one is visiting a friend or family’s home instead of an impersonal hotel. The meals looked delicious!
