Mini Calzones

If you’re looking for the perfect snack, appetizer, lunch, or kid’s meal, mini calzones have you covered! They are easy to make, quick to bake, and a huge hit, no matter what you choose to stuff them with.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Ingredients:

  • 12 frozen dinner roll dough balls
  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup of sliced black olives
  • 1 – 6oz package of pepperoni
  • 1 cup of marinara sauce

Preparation:

  • Thaw your dough balls according to the package instructions
  • Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees
  • Stretch out each dough ball and lay flat on a well-greased cookie sheet
  • Add a small spoonful of sauce to the upper half of each stretched dough ball
  • Add cheese, sliced pepperoni, and black olives
  • Stretch lower half of dough over your toppings and pinch around edges to seal toppings inside
  • Place in the oven and back for roughly 12 minutes. Bread should be a golden brown
  • Cool and serve with marinara on the side for dipping or on top

Toppings

Where do I even begin with toppings? Since my daughter requested the mini calzones this week, she had rights to the toppings. Pepperoni and black olives…..just the way she likes her pizza. But if you’re into variety, there are so many tasty combinations you have to try!

  • Mediterranean: I use black and green olives, mozzerlla and feta cheeses, diced onions, minced garlic, and a few sliced artichoke hearts. Delicious!
  • Hawaiian: Toss in some diced ham (or spam if you really want the Hawaiian experience), and small pineapple tidbits.
  • All Meats: When you want these little guys to fill you up, mix in a combo of your favorite meats. We use pepperoni, diced Italian sausage links, ham, ground beef, and a little bacon. It makes a pretty hearty little calzone.
  • Veggies: I absolutely love different combinations of veggie calzones. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a spinach and mushroom calzone, while other times I stuff them with everything – tomatoes, onions, black and green olives, mushrooms, broccoli bits, and a bit of feta.

Great Recipe for Kids

These re a fun recipe to make with your kids and grandkids. I suggest defrosting the dough in advance so you can get right to the fun part! Set out several small bowls full of various toppings and let them go to work! They have a great time filling their mini creations. These are so easy to make and quick to bake.

Happy Baking!
