Ellijay and Blue Ridge Are Great Getaways for Families

Ellijay and Blue Ridge Georgia

A few weekends ago we had our annual girls trip and we went to Ellijay, Georgia. Why did we choose Ellijay? Because my friend has a cabin there and she had redecorated and wanted to show it to us. Her cabin was adorable and we had a wonderful time. We didn’t sight see a lot because we were there to catch up with each other. We talked and talked and talked and……well, you get the idea.

But we did eat at a great restaurant called The Roof. It was a fun place with great food. This picture was made there. Even though we didn’t make it to very many places I’ve been to Ellijay before. Years ago Bill and I went with my cousin and her husband to a cabin in the same area. We had so much fun. There’s so much to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

My son and his wife just happened to be nearby in Blue Ridge celebrating their first wedding anniversary and they met us for lunch.

It was so fun having them visit us for lunch! They enjoyed The Roof too!

They also enjoyed horseback riding.

And white water rafting…

They are the two in the front. The guide is standing and waving!

They also hiked to to see the waterfall. We did this with my cousin and her husband and it was so fun! That was several years ago. I might have to drive to the top now.

Yes, that’s right you can drive to the top of Amicalola falls but if you want the exercise or you are feeling adventurous, a hike is good too! It’s 425 steps so be prepared. It isn’t a hike for the faint of heart (or those who have spent the Pandemic only hiking to the fridge and back like me).

Three Sisters Fudge will give you more than three reasons to keep going back. If you have a sweet tooth be sure and stop by!

Mercier Orchards

Mercier Orchards is a must see. We went there in the fall and the pumpkin display was unbelievable. This was early summer and it’s still a beautiful place.

Ellijay and Blue Ridge

The apple pies are highly recommended by my son! They also have fresh produce and homemade donuts every day!

This photo was made several years ago on the trip I mentioned at the beginning of this post. Bill and I joined Martha (my cousin and BFF) and Glenn (her husband) at a cabin in McCaysville. It’s the little town the train takes you to. You can stand in Georgia and Tennessee at the same time! Martha fought breast cancer for decades before she went home to heaven. Oh how I miss her!

There are also unique shops in every little town mentioned here and lots more great restaurants. If you have any questions at all, or you want more information, just ask me! I’ll be happy to help!
