Thursday Thoughts on Nap Time

Why do little children fight nap time? It’s like they have a built in mechanism that tells them they might miss something if they fall asleep, so they wiggle, wiggle, wiggle to stay awake.

My ten month old granddaughter is not a good sleeper, or maybe I should say a consistently good sleeper. Some nights she sleeps well but other nights she keeps mommy and daddy up very late. Yesterday when I got to my daughter’s house my son-in-law met me at the door and he had dark circles beneath his eyes.

“She didn’t sleep well again last night,” he said. “This is two nights in a row.” I took the baby and he went off to work.

It didn’t take long for me to realize that daddy wasn’t the only one who was tired, but I didn’t know how tired until I put her in what we call “The Jumping Chair.”  Baby K loves to jump and will bounce for as long as we will let her. Or in this case until she falls asleep. I had to share the video with you. Watch all the way through. I know I’m the nana and I’m prejudiced but I promise this is the cutest video ever!

Now if you will excuse me, it’s nap time at nana’s house. Baby K is asleep and I’m going to snuggle up beside her and take a snooze myself. How about you? Do you like naps?

  1. I’m a big fan of a nap – when I was younger and needed to recharge so I could party all night, I called them “disco naps”. Now that I am a mother and celebrating my Big Four Oh My Gods this year, I call them “nanna naps”!

I was lucky enough to have an excellent sleeper for a baby and he’s still pretty good now at nearly 9. He put himself to sleep as a newborn and when he could crawl, used to move to the bottom of the stairs when he was ready for his naps. Bless!

  2. Nice to meet you! I followed you back on twitter and I’m heading over to your blog now! Thanks for grabbing my button and have a great weekend!

  3. Oh how fun! I love love love your video, and what’s more important I found a NaNa like me! Oh joy! Except my first grandson couldn’t say NaNa it came out NaNee (or Nonny), so baby after baby (9 total – I have 4 children/adults) it stuck at NaNee. 🙂 So happy to meet you, and your granddaughter is totally adorable. No more babies for us. My youngest is going to be 5 in March, but he’s still our lil’ guy. He’s so petite. I’m following what I could find. Very nice to meet you. I also have your button so I can find you again. Do stop by if you can. Have a wonderful weekend!
