Thanksgiving Blessings Along With Cold and Flu Season

Thanksgiving Blessings

As I type this I am 99 percent sure I’m coming down with a cold. Yesterday my eyes burned all day and today my sinuses are on fire. Several of my grandchildren have been sick with the flu but are finally on the mend. All in all, we are doing okay.

The State of the World

I try to keep up with the news even though I no longer watch television. I had to run some errands today and I listened to news from Ukraine. Russia is bombing their power grids and they are facing a long, cold winter with the possibility of limited to no power. How will they survive? I think about my grandchildren and how I would feel if they were cold with no source of heat, no water. It breaks my heart.

Closer to Home

I also know of families that can’t celebrate this Thanksgiving because someone (or many) in the family have Covid or the flu. Hopefully they will celebrate at a later date. I still remember Christmas of 2020: the year there was no holiday for our family. But I’m not going to drag up those memories today.

Instead I want to encourage you to remember the neighbor who lost a parent and is struggling. A friend who lost a brother and sister-in-law within just a few months of each other. Those getting ready to go through surgery. Elderly friends who live alone. The older I get the more aware I am of others and if I can shine one ray of hope in their lives, I pray God will show me the way to do it.

I am so thankful for the many blessings of this year. I have a new grandson! He’s precious, healthy and adored. My church family, my family and all my friends. And of course I praise Jesus daily because every good and perfect gift comes from our Heavenly Father.

I have a son in California that I haven’t seen in way too long and they are flying in Saturday night. I told my friend I was going to throw my arms and legs around him and hold on! It will be the biggest, longest momma hug he’s had in awhile!

I hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful, but if it’s not….remember He cares. I care. and there are friends and neighbors who do too. Reach out to them!
