Singing Babushkas Are Hip

“In Russian culture, one iconic image is the elderly woman — in Russian, she’s called a “babushka” — sitting on a roadside, selling vegetables from her garden.” NPR

These are babushka dolls and when my aunt went to Russia years ago on a mission trip she brought me some back. Notice they are all very round. I suspect they have been eating too much Earthquake cake. Lol

Anyway, several babushkas got together, picked out their most colorful outfits (not color coordinated by the way) and formed a singing group. Now they are famous. They have been on NPR and YouTube. These lovely ladies are a singing sensation; flying all over Russia singing Beatles’ music and rock and roll.

Which proves to me that A. Anyone can be famous given the right time and the right circumstances and B. Music is a universal language.

When I watch these ladies on YouTube it doesn’t matter that I don’t know that the only Russian word I know is “babushka.”  They make me smile.

So how about it, gals? Any singing nanas out there ready to go on the road? If babushkas can do it, so can we!

Giving thanks for music today! If everyone kept a song in their hearts the world would be a cheerier place!
