Nana’s Blueberry Smoothie

Nana’s Blueberry Smoothie

I’m sure you know the health benefits of blueberries but just in case you don’t…

  • Blueberries have been proven to help bone strength, heart health, skin health, blood pressure, diabetes management, cancer prevention, and mental health.
  • One cup of blueberries provides 24 percent of a person recommended daily allowance of vitamin C.

I have a  ton of frozen blueberries in our freezer and I decided to try my hand at making a smoothie. It turned out pretty delicious! First I started with frozen blueberries from our blueberry farm.

Next comes the yogurt.

I washed the berries and added a cup of them to about a cup of vanilla yogurt.

Then I added a banana. I chopped the ends off because it was too ripe but it was still good for my smoothie. I had some frozen bananas and was going to use them but they were so frozen I was afraid I’d tear the blender up. Bananas are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, riboflavin, potassium and B6. The high content of potassium in bananas makes it a super fruit, just like blueberries.

I added just a dash of honey (which I probably could have done without) because it was plenty sweet and put it all in my blender. The berries were frozen so  it took just a minute or two and then….

I had a delicious purple blueberry smoothie!

Another great thing about blueberries is that they delay aging. That’s right! They are the fountain of youth! They are packed with antioxidants and have so much vitamin C that they can prevent wrinkles, age spots, cataracts, hair loss, dementia and osteoporosis.

So even if you don’t love them…eat them. They will keep you looking young and feeling great! A blueberry smoothie a day keeps the doctor away and makes you look younger!

  3. thanks for the blueberry inspirations. So important to incorporate them into our daily diet–in enough bulk to make a difference. Since I like a tart taste, I’m going to try your smoothie recipe with unflavored goat’s milk yogurt. the banana should provide enough sweet, right? hope so.
