Mama Tried

Today I was at lunch with some friends when my cell phone rang. They looked at me and burst out laughing. Perhaps you will understand why if you know what my ring tone is.

Why, you may ask, did I choose that song for my ring tone?

1. I love Merle Haggard.

2. I am the mother of 4 very messy boys who evidently don’t believe that cleanliness is next to Godliness and so I have to remind myself that “I raised them better.”

3. My mother could have written the song about me (except for the prison part). During my teen years especially I’m fairly sure that if she had a cell phone, this would have been her theme song too.

4. The song makes me smile.

5. It reminds me not to sweat the small stuff.

I am not a perfect parent or grandparent but I love my children and my grandchild dearly and every day I get up and “I try.”

That’s the best a mom and a nana can do!
