Long Distance Nana-Connie Scott
This beautiful woman is one of my former students. Her name is Natasha and as you can see she has two beautiful children, twins actually. Natasha and her husband live overseas and we are now Facebook Friends. The following story was sent to me by her about her mom, Connie, who is my former art teacher. I love them all dearly and appreciated Natasha sharing her story with NanaHood. Thanks, Natasha!
My mother is definitely the best. Now, I know that everyone puts their own mother in this category of “the best.” And, I am certain that there were times during motherhood that she thought she might “damage us for life.” But, I am truly one of the blessed ones.
Over 33 years I have benefited from Mom’s wisdom, countless hours of care and concern, and most importantly, her prayers. She has been a true life example of endurance, hard work and discipline. She taught me how to love a husband, caring for Dad until cancer finally took him. I have watched her parent my brother as a single mom. And, now, I am watching her blossom into the role that she was surely born to fulfill…Nana.
But for my mother, it has been a unique nanahood. I was a state away when I announced, over the phone, that she would be a nana to twins. Eight months after the birth of our son and daughter, we moved…across the world…literally. Our Nana has used her creative mind, putting together packages, sending cards, and visiting three times now. Her visits usually include up to four airplane transfers, boat rides and taxis in foreign languages. Yet when she finally gets here, we get presents from America, long chats over coffee and lots of hugs. Thanks Nana!
More Long Distance Nanas
I doubt if Connie is the only long distance nana out there. If you are far away from your grandchildren how do you keep in touch? Do you have any suggestions for other nanas trying to keep in touch across the miles? If so, share your ideas with us at NanaHood!
I would like to have more articles like these. I am a long distance nana to two girls. I’m in Indiana and they are in Arkansas. We e-mail one another. The e-mails are so cute. But I would like more creative ideas because I am still raising three boys and my brain is on overload! Thanks!
