The Great Goat Adventure

Children never forget things. Many months ago my 4 year old granddaughter mentioned she wanted a baby goat. I told her I would get her one and didn’t think much more about it. Then last week my daughter told me that every night this summer when Kiki says her prayers she prays for a baby goat. Sheesh. Guess who is the proud owner of 2 baby goats?

Home Alone

I could have gotten by with one but the 3 year old granddaughter wanted one too and I figure how much difference can another one make? Plus, goat number one would be lonely if he was home alone. So we brought two Pygmy goats and brought them to our farm.

Goats

I couldn’t have picked a worse day to go get the goats. It was pouring rain and if there’s anything that smells worse than a goat: it’s a wet goat. The minute we got them in the car they of course started doing what goats do…

Kiki says, “Look, Nana, they are pooping jelly beans!”

Me, “Those are not jelly beans and don’t eat them!”

My granddaughters discussed what to name them and the oldest one named them Russell and Grant (our twins and her uncles). We ended up changing their names later.

Here’s the oldest granddaughter introducing them as Russell and Grant. I love her explanation as to why they are named after her uncles.

When we got them to the farm one escaped in the barn and I had to crawl under tractors and a combine to catch him. By the time I got home I had been rained on, rolled in mud and I smelled like a goat.

Shower Time

I turned the shower water on as soon as I got home, threw my clothes in the washer, and scrubbed myself until all the goat smell was gone.

Next time this nana will be more careful about what she promises her grandkids! And if they pray for a baby elephant….they can go to the zoo.

This is a #BlogHop Link up and tell me about your adventures last week!

  1. How funny, Teresa! I’m not a grandma yet, but can only imagine how those little cuties pull a grandma’s heart strings! Thanks so much for the linkup!

  2. Thanks so much and yes they are adorable. I’m a sucker for my grandkids! If they asked for an elephant I would probably try to get them one.

  3. Goats or sheep, they do smell. We have wool carpet and guess what it smells like when it gets wet. Yes, it smells like a “clean” sheep but a sheep non the less.

  4. And didn’t you say on Instagram that they are now named Smith & Wesson?
    Oh, honey.
They are adorable, those little jelly bean poopers!
But you are in for a wild ride! LOL!
