Friends, Snow Days, and a Big Pan of Lasagna
Every Christmas for more years than I can count I have had lunch with some of my closest friends. The only bad part of having lunch with them has been the trouble we have finding a day and time when we can all get together. Coordinating five different schedules is a nightmare.
Last week we finally decided we could all meet at Sharon’s house. She lives in town and we could all get there from work for at least an hour. I volunteered to make lasagna and the date was set. Then it snowed.
We never (rarely) get measurable snow before Christmas, but it happened. The roads are a mess and school was canceled for today. I had already made the lasagna and when Sharon called and said everyone else could still come I told them I would be there shortly. Wrong.
My first problem was getting a huge pan of lasagna in the car. The pan was hot and I had cooking mittens on. When I carried it outside I couldn’t find anywhere to sit it so that I could open the car door, so I sat it on the ground and five hungry dogs immediately appeared. I screamed and picked it back up and headed back into the house. The dogs weren’t happy but I was. If they had eaten it I guess I would have had to go to Micky D’s and bought us Happy Meals.
I finally got it in the car and started down my drive way. It didn’t take me but a few minutes to realize that the roads were much worse than I thought.
I waited and waited and waited some more. I called Sharon and told her that her lasagna would be a little delayed. When nothing happened after thirty minutes or so I turned around and took a different route. I would have attempted this earlier but my backing up skills are not the best. Okay, they are terrible, but this time I managed to do okay.
When I finally arrived everyone else was already there. Even though we don’t get together often we are never at a loss for words when we are together.
Annette insisted we all be in at least one photo and none of us were smart enough to figure out how to work the timers on our cameras so this is what we did.
We had so much fun. We laughed. We cried. We remembered.
Thank you Lord for loving (if slightly nuts) friends! They comfort me in hard times and celebrate with me in good times. They are the icing on my cake!
P.S. Congrats to Sharon (not the one in this post, a different one) who is the winner of the Grandcamp prize!
That looks like a fun event for you all. That thought of it really makes me smile. I love gatherings, either with friends or with families. I do enjoy little talks over hearty meals. And lasagna is my favorite dish to make, too. It makes any house felt like home whenever you’re gather around a big pan of lasagna, 🙂
Looks like fun! Your post made me smile. I’m glad you and the lasagna arrived safe!
Some of us neighbor ladies do this too. We each have a season to do in. I have summer. You gals look like you are having so much fun. Happy you made it over there safely. We are having road problems where I live and am expecting ice to move in tonight (TN.). The two grandsons we are raising already have cabin fever and have only been out for two snow days so far. Hope they get to go back Thursday for their Christmas parties and they only have a half day Friday. Guess Christmas break started earlier thanks to God and Mother Nature. 🙂
