Call Me When You Get There

Call me when you get there

When I was a teenager and young adult we didn’t have cell phones. I loved going places with my friends. During college we took spring break trips to Florida and then later after I married Bill, we traveled with our young children. I never, ever went anywhere that my mother didn’t say, “Call me when you get there.”

Fast forward to 1990 and we lost momma to colon cancer when she was only 51 years old. Then a short 5 years later and we lost our father to a heart attack.

Suddenly my brother and I were orphans. Yes, we were adults with children of our own but we felt like orphans. There was no one to ask us to call them when we got where we were going

2020

Bill and I were married in 1980 and we were blessed with 40 wonderful years of marriage and then he got sick. First, he was diagnosed with an autoimmune immune disorder and then in December he got COVID. It was a very bad year.

2021 didn’t start out any better. Bill was in two different hospitals and almost died three different times. Each time I held my breath and prayed.

After three months of touch and go we finally made it out of the hospital and to rehab.

The rehab facility won’t let me spend the night so every day I leave and drive somewhere else to spend the night. Today when I left Bill asked me to wait a minute. I said, “ Sure, what do you need?”

“Will you call me when you get there?” he asked.
“Of course I will.”

And I did.

If you are traveling and someone asks you to please call them when you get there…. call them and be thankful they asked.

It’s a blessing. I promise.

  1. So true–so touching and so real, Teresa. We take too much for granted in our lives. I am so glad Bill has begun rehab. It is one step closer to so many steps towards regaining his health and going back home. Continuing to keep him in my prayers!
