Buttery Bread Rolls
If you even begin to mention bread in our household the answer is always yes! I think my kids inherited the belief that bread is not only its own food group, but a breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack all on its own. I wish I were joking, but we are serious bread lovers. I try out different recipes when one catches my eye or when my daughter sends me the latest bread recipe she finds on social media. While we’ve certainly had some delicious outcomes, we’ve has had a few fails! I’ll adim….the fails were likely baker-error! But we do have our go-to buttery bread roll recipe when I just want to whip up a quick batch.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups of flour
- 1 tablespoon dry active yeast
Preparation:
- Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees and generously grease a baking dish ( i used a 9×13)
- In a small bowl, mix water and melted butter, then slowly add in your honey and blend until smooth
- Microwave the mixture for approximately 45-60 seconds
- In your mixer’s bowl, pour in the liquid mixture and sprinkle in the yeast. After a slight stir, allow it to activate for 5 minutes. It will begin to get foamy.
- Add in your flour and salt and knead using the mixer’s dough hook for up to 5 minutes. Add in a little extra flour very gradually if your dough seems to stick to the hook or sides.
- Remove the dough and form a large ball, then place it into a greased bowl.
- Cover your bowl with a damp paper towel or small towel and allow it to rise for approximately 15 minutes.
- Give the dough a few gentle kneads with your hand then divide it up into small balls or ovals. I tend to separate them into 12 ovals.
- place the balls into your prepared baking dish and cover with the damp towel for an additional 20 minutes.
- Remove the towel and place in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tops begin to turn a nice golden brown.
- When done, brush additional melted butter on top an allow them to cool.
Bread Topping Options
We’ve tried a few variations for our butter topping and tend to come right back to our favorites. I love to saute fresh garlic in butter then brush it on generously during the cooling phase. When we want something a bit sweet, I mix a teaspoon of honey with the melted butter. If you’re making your rolls for a snack, the kids may love a melted butter, honey, and cinnamon coating. It’s a delicious blend and satisfies your sweet tooth!
Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
