Austrailian Grandmother Sued by Her Family for Injuring Granddaughter

I can’t imagine too many things more horrible than something happening to a child who was left in my care. This week a headline about a grandmother who fell down a flight of stairs while carrying her granddaughter caught my eye and when I read the whole story I was reminded of the importance of safety measures.

The grandmother, who was only 55, lives in Australia. She was with her family on vacation and was taking her 5 month old granddaughter down a flight of stairs when she fell. She held on to the baby but as a result of the fall the child received permanent brain injury.

I can’t imagine how devastated this grandmother and her family are and my heart aches for them.

I also can’t imagine why the family sued her, but that’s what happened.

You can read about it here.

I carry my granddaughter up and down stairs every day and I always do my best to go slowly and watch my step. You can bet after reading this article I will go more slowly, make sure the lights are on and hold on to the hand railing as well.

When it comes to children the old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” definitely applies. If you have children in your home, even just to visit, please read over the following safety tips and make sure your home is as safe as possible.
