Marie Callender’s Pie and Prayers for Exceptional Moms

I am one of six bloggers who write for Marie Callender’s blog. Recently they sent me ten pie coupons to give as gifts for Mother’s Day. They have lots of great meal and dessert choices and with each coupon the recipient could purchase one free Marie Callender’s pie. I immediately started thinking about who I should give them to.

How Do You Choose Just 10 Exceptional Moms?

Mother’s Day isn’t for a couple of weeks but I couldn’t wait. Every mom deserves some sweetness in her life, right? But I only had ten coupons and I wanted to make sure I picked ten exceptional moms. As long and as hard as I thought about who to give them to you would think I was Billy Crystal about to give out the Oscars!

I finally came to the conclusion that the reason I was having so much difficulty deciding who to give them to was because I am blessed to know so many exceptional moms. I finally decided to give them to exceptional moms who are facing (or had faced) a crisis.

Every One Can Use a Pie and a Prayer

However, instead of just giving them a pie I decided to also commit to praying for them every day for one week. I wrote down their names on the back of the letter you see pictured above and then wrote them a card telling them I would be praying for them and put the pie coupon inside. Then I taped the letter (name side up) to the top of my computer where I would be sure and see the names first thing every morning when I read my Bible and pray.

Murphy, my slightly neurotic Cocker Spaniel, volunteered to to go with me to the post office to mail them.

We mailed the letters and every day for a week I have prayed for them. To protect their privacy I’m not going to share their names but I will share a few of their stories.

Exceptional Moms

* I said I wasn’t going to use names but my cousin Martha won’t mind. I write about her  often at NanaHood. She is one of the main reasons that NanaHood is pink. She has battled breast cancer for years and is one of the strongest Christian women I know. I knew she had two friends at her church that were also battling breast cancer so I asked her for their names and they received a pie and prayers too.

* Two of my other friends also have breast cancer. I saw one of them about a week ago and she’s finished chemo and is now beginning radiation.

* Two of my recipients of pies and prayer work at the same place and they recently lost a close friend and co-worker. One of them has a son who was seriously injured in an accident (he has since recovered) and the other lady was hospitalized for nerve damage. They both have had more stress lately than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs, and yet they have handled it with faith and dignity.

* Into every life a little rain must fall but sometimes it comes a flood. Sherri and Jane (not their real names) have had to put on their mud boots and get out their umbrellas. They are from the same family and both of their husbands have cancer and have been in and out of the hospital with treatments, sickness and surgery. They both are strong women but my heart aches for them as I watch them struggle to cope with their husband’s illnesses.

These women exhibit  joy, love, strength and faith to their families and friends and I appreciate them so much.

Who are the exceptional moms in your life? Let them know you think they are special—it’s the best Mother’s Day gift!

Be sure and come back to NanaHood next Monday, the 29th. I’m hosting a NanaHood and Friends Mother’s Day Contest. There will be lots of great prizes! And if you want to read some of my posts for Marie Callender’s at their blog you can do so by clicking this link.
