A Creative Family
By Tiffany Secula
As a child I was always making something. Whether it was a house of sticks while playing in the woods, drawing a picture or writing a poem, something was happening. I love being creative, always have and always will. I feel so blessed that it continues today in our lives. My husband is very artistic and so are my children.
I found myself in awe of it today. Each of us had our own spaces bursting with activity. The sounds of the sewing machine were rattling at one end of the house while the smell of paint drifted from the other. I have been bitten but the sewing bug again recently. He visits every “sew” often. 🙂 And I feel the need to break out my machine and see what I can create. Today’s project was a journal covers for my boys. They love to draw and I wanted to make something so it seemed like a perfect fit. Too bad my creating makes a much bigger mess then theirs!
My first attempt at journals didn’t turn out so well and my son was confused thinking I was naming the journal covers “flops” instead of stating that is what I did! But oh well, lessons learned and the next ones were much better.
My husband has recently decided to pick up a paint brush again and I am so glad he did! I always love his art and am so glad he has the space and the desire to create again! I can’t wait to see the finished project, but as he says, “I am just throwing colors up there to see what happens!”
Even my boys get in on the creative train! The oldest brought home a “How to Draw Star Wars” book from school. He is hard at work turning his new covered journal into a Star Wars character book. And my youngest son even turns computer time into a creative experience with the online Lego designer. He gets to play around with Lego pieces they don’t own and create all kinds of new masterpieces!
And then there is our daughter. Although at the time I was taking pictures she was fast asleep (I don’t think she is feeling well) just earlier she had been drawing while eating lunch and created the cutest little burger with legs you will ever see!
I just hope as my children grow they do not lose the desire to create. I hope that is one of many things we will pass on to them that will last a lifetime. We are so blessed to serve a God that is incredibly artistic and creative, just look at this marvelous world He made for us! I thank Him that we, being made in His image, have a little bit of creativity in us as well!
Have a creative weekend yourself!

I grew up in a very creative family and all these years later, we each retain that receptivity. It’s a beautiful gift!
