Sam the Sheep

Sam the Sheep

Just when we needed something “happy” a baby lamb was born on our farm. These sheep are a breed called Babydoll sheep and they live up to the name in cuteness!

This particular breed of sheep are officially known as babydoll Southdown sheep. They are the diminutive version of the Southdown breed of sheep, which originated in the South “Downs” of Sussex County, England. They were known for their hardiness, quality fleece and their tender meat (don’t say that in front of Sam…we have no intentions of eating him). This breed made its way to the United States around 1803, according to the Olde English Babydoll Southdown Sheep Registry.

This is Sam with his mom on day 3. He’s starting to stand up and kick around. Isn’t he sweet?

Speaking of sweet, we took two of our granddaughter’s over to visit him.

Their skin doesn’t feel like you think it would. Babies have more skin than fur so they are not soft and fluffy. They are sort of rough and lumpy feeling but the girls didn’t seem to mind!

I got in a quick snuggle while Marlene and Barbie (our mini-donkeys) watched.

I know this is a time of uncertainty and many of us are unsure about what tomorrow will bring, but when I look at the sunrise or sunset I am always reminded that God is control. He’s got this. We can trust Him to get us through this. Hugs to you, my Nanahood friends. I appreciate you!

  1. Is anything cuter than a baby sheep? Love these photos. My granddaughter had a photo shoot last year with a lamb. The pictures were phenomenally cute!

  2. What an adorable lamb! The joy of new life and the promise that we will get through this crisis and life will continue. Thank you!
