Dear Grandchildren

My Dear Grandchildren

We are still quarantined at home as I write this. I have no idea when this will be over and it’s possible there could be another round of it this fall. By far the hardest part of this is being away from you and your parents. It’s also hard being away from our church family. We gather every Sunday in the den and watch the church service on our television via livestream on Facebook (my parents and grandparents would NOT believe this could ever happen) but it’s not the same as being with our church family. This whole thing is so surreal. Friends and neighbors have lost their jobs. The economy is in a mess, which means nothing to you sweet children, but it definitely effects so many adults.

The one safe place we can and do go is the farm. The animals don’t know or care about a pandemic and there is no social distancing amongst the animals. We have two lambs now, Sam and Easter. Today I held Sam while Poppa gave him a shot.

Dear Grandchildren

Sam didn’t mind his shot nearly as much as you all mind yours!

The miniature donkeys, Marlene and Barbie were helping each other out by biting each other on the neck. I know that sounds painful but they weren’t hurting each other. It was more of a “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine,” deal. One of the goats photo bombed the picture!

Dear Grandchildren

Marlene is a very tiny donkey and Barbie is a little bit bigger. At first Barbie was standoffish but now she’s just as friendly as Marlene. I love scratching them behind their ears and talking to them.

The goats always want attention and they love climbing. We have some old shelving that came out of a grocery store and they love playing on it. This goat (I call him Russell because your Uncle Russell has a goatee) thinks he’s King of the world.

Dear Grandchildren

We named the farm Bellview Family Farm because a long time ago my mother and her brothers attended a one room school called Bellview that was very near to the farm. They were born in the house on the farm and walked through the woods to the school. The farm belonged to my great-grandparents and I hope one day you all will come to love it as much as I do.

I am so ready for this pandemic to be over and to see each of you again and hold you in my arms. I can’t wait until you can come to the farm and watch the lambs play, see all the animals and play on the playground. I love each of you beyond measure.

Nana
