Cancer Sucks

Every October I blog a lot about cancer. For awhile I focused solely on breast cancer because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  There are lots of awesome blogs who help shout out the Pink Month and one of my favs is Holly Bertone at The Coconut’s Head’s Survival Guide. She is one smart chick and when it comes to breast cancer, she’s been there done that.

This is from Holly’s bio:

Holly Bertone is originally from Waynesboro, PA. She holds a Masters Degree from Johns Hopkins University, a Bachelor’s Degree from Elizabethtown College, and is a Project Management Professional (PMP). Holly is the CEO and President of Pink Fortitude, LLC, a company dedicated to promoting inspiration and positive self-esteem to cancer survivors and ALL women. Holly has published several books, including the heartwarming “Coconut Head’s Cancer Survival Guide – My Journey from Diagnosis to ‘I Do’.”

All Cancer Sucks

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that ALL cancer is awful and ALL cancer needs to be stopped. And when I consider that my mother died from colon cancer, my father-in-law from lymphoma and my brother-in-law from lung cancer, I began to think that for me October should be “All Cancer Sucks Month.”

Just so you know I hate the word “sucks” and wish it had never been used in the manner it now is, but I hate cancer more. So when it comes to describing this awful disease I decided the word “cancer” deserves the word “sucks.” One ugly word deserves another.

I do have survivors in my family and for that I am so very thankful. My cousin Martha is a 3 time breast cancer survivor and one of my very best friends in the world.

I hate what cancer does to the people I love and I know you hate it too.

So while the world around us turns Pink this month, and I certainly support them, I  plan to include blog posts about awareness and information about cancer research for all the colors of cancer here at NanaHood.

Because ALL cancer sucks.

  1. I’m so sorry Kay. All cancer is awful! Today I’m talking about childhood cancer. Yuck, yuck and more yuck. I hate it!

  2. Thank you for changing it to all cancer. I wish other cancers received the attention that breast cancer does (not to take anything away from breast cancer). In the past year I’ve lost two women I love to ovarian cancer and pancreatic cancer.

  3. Ha ha ha! Love it! Hopefully will write another one about twins next month. Doing cancer awareness this month! Blessings to you and let me know when the babies are here! Send pictures!

  4. Great information! My daughter is loving the twin posts by the way. She also said your sons “were hot” coming in a 22 yearold, happily married pregnant with twins kind of way!!!! Keep them coming.

  5. I can’t agree more, Nana…now that I’m fighting breast cancer my self, I know how damaging those cells can be..thank you for supporting the movement ..hugs..
