Advertisement says, “I wish I had breast Cancer.”
Have you read about the advertisement that says, “I wish I had breast cancer.” The young girl in the ad has pancreatic cancer. The point of the ad is that breast cancer has a longer and better rate of survival than pancreatic cancer.
When I first heard about the ad on the radio my thoughts were of the many, many friends I have who are fighting breast cancer, as well those who have lost their battle. What an insult to those women, I thought.
Then I read more about the advertisement and while I still don’t like it (I think it’s in poor taste) after I read it I did understand why they said what they said. Also, my heart goes out to the young woman who has pancreatic cancer and appears in the ad. Pancreatic cancer is one of the hardest cancers to treat.
Cancer and Advertising
I have a blogger friend who has breast cancer and she takes issue with all the PINK focus on breast cancer. She believes that there is almost a party type atmosphere around breast cancer and that merchandisers use it as a way to sell products. Stick a pink ribbon on it and it will sell better, she says.
All Cancer is Bad
Right now in my hometown we have a 9 year old with a rare form of cancer. Every day his mom posts pictures and prayer requests on Facebook that rip a mother’s heart right out of her chest. I pray for him and I pray for her. She has no choice to be strong, but it’s still so hard.
There is nothing good about any kind of cancer. My feelings are mixed about the advertisement I told you about earlier, but not about cancer.
I hate cancer and I hate what it does.
I wish there was a cure for ALL cancers.
I just want it all (cancer) to go away and never come back!
All cancer deserves a cure… Why, oh why, have we not found one by now?
I agree, although I do understand some cancers are harder to treat then others, My daughter inlaws been fighting cervical cancer for al most a year now, sometimes it’s frustrating that it doesn’t get as much focus as breast cancer. But I have dear friends who’ve had breast cancer so rejoice for them with the success of the pink campaign.
I totally agree with your assessment——it could be insulting to those who have lost someone from breast cancer and yet, they have a point.
