A Giving Heart

This is the true story of a little girl who made a big difference in the world. Her name was Rachel and for her birthday she didn’t wish for a new pair of skates or a bike…. she wished for clean water.

Here is her wish in her words…

On June 12th 2011, I’m turning 9. I found out that millions of people don’t live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn’t have access to clean, safe water so I’m celebrating my birthday like never before. I’m asking from everyone I know to donate to my campaign instead of gifts for my birthday. Every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund freshwater projects in developing nations. Even better, every dollar is “proved” when the projects are complete, and photos and GPS coordinates are posted using Google Earth. My goal is to raise $300 by my birthday, June 12, 2011. Please consider helping me.

Thank you so much!!!

On July 12th Rachel was involved in a horrible car crash that severed her spinal cord and eventually took her life, but her story doesn’t end there.

Remember her request for her birthday? Since her death people have donated over 700,000 dollars for Rachel’s birthday wish. That’s a lot of clean water and that’s a very big difference in the world for a little girl who didn’t get to stay here long enough.

Today I’m thinking and praying for Rachel’s family and giving thanks for those who have giving hearts. Especially Rachel.
