Some of our best family memories are from “family hikes”…whatever the season, we just all strike out in some direction on the farm and ‘go with the flow’…it might involve skipping rocks on the pond, picking up hickory nuts, pictures of scenery or hijinks by the children, or just good ‘fellowship’. But one Christmas holiday, we came upon a grapevine in the woods, and it led to all kinds of risky behavior by young and old (and the “old” dads were the riskiest!!)–swinging on the grapevine, ‘riding down’ small saplings nearby, and tree-climbing. They will never forget the fun of this hike, nor or many others, such as the one involving a 6 foot black snake……..
