Cousins Camp

This is a book review of a book all grandmothers and mothers will love because it stresses the importance of family connections. I was not paid for this review but I did receive a copy of the book for free. The opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Did you grow up surrounded by your cousins? If you didn’t you missed out on some very special relationships. I had an abundance of boy cousins, but fortunately there were some girls as well. The two cousins I was closest to were Martha and Sarah. Martha was my age and Sarah was quite a bit younger but we share a bond of family and memories that keeps us feeling close to this day.

Today’s world moves at a faster pace and often families are spread out and unable to get together to enjoy the long, lazy summers that my cousins and I remember, but there is a solution for strengthening the cousin bond. Jan Hletko is a grandmother of nine and she’s written a book called Cousin Camp that is a must have for all nanas who want their grandchildren to be friends with their cousins.

Cousins Camp

According to the review on Amazon says in part, “This book advises grandparents how to hold a Cousins Camp focusing on grandchildren 5-10 years old as well as tips for conducting a Family Camp (still focused on the kids but including parents as well). After six years of experience of holding Cousin Camps, the author has thought of everything to make things run smoothly. She provides you with information about what to expect and how to overcome any foreseen obstacles to having a great time with your grandchildren. It contains specific ideas for packing lists, games, activities, arts/crafts, theme nights, decorations, recipe suggestions, photo examples and even includes a survey to get feedback from your campers.”

The Author

Why is Jane Hletko qualified to write this book? Because she’s a creative educator, parent and grandparent. She was one of the first 100 teachers in the United States to attain certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. In 19990-2000 she was the Georgetown County Teacher of the Year and she was the South Carolina Journalism Teacher in 2005.

In my opinion the very best reason she is qualified to write this book is because she has held 6 successful Cousins Camps and if you don’t believe they were successful, just ask  her grandchildren and they will tell you!
