10 Things I Love about the Florida Keys

I could tell you all the things I love about the Keys, but I’d rather show you.

10. Unexpected fun.

Where else can you find poetry in cement on sidewalks? This is in front of Hemingway’s house in Key West.

9. Cats with 6 Toes.

Where else can you see so many six toed cats named after movie stars? Bet you didn’t know Marilyn Monroe is a six toed cat! We toured Hemingway’s home and saw lots of his cats descendants. Most have six toes…but not all.

8. Sea Turtle hospital.

It was fascinating! I learned so much about turtles and I highly recommend this tour!

7. Sunshine Key

Ten Things I love about the Florida Keys
1979 we met on Sunshine Key. 41 years later we returned to the dock where we first kissed. 5 children and 7 grandchildren later, we are still together. We have changed, just like the campground where we met, but we’ve endured the storms, rode the waves, and loved our life together. Sunshine Key, you are special.

6. The 7 Mile Grill

10 Things I love about the Keys
This little pirate lady was at a restaurant called The 7 Mile Grill (which I highly recommend for lunch or breakfast.

5. Ships

I never tire of watching sailboats. One of my favorite songs is “Sailing” by Christopher Cross. It’s just soooo beautiful.

4. Burdines

Not only was this restaurant good it was on the water, they got us in and out quickly, and let us have a shower for Courtney, who is marrying one of our twins. Fun place to eat! I told Courtney to stand under catch of the day because she was my son’s catch of a lifetime!

3. Margaritaville Hotel

Maragaritaville Hotel at night was so pretty. We didn’t stay there but if you want to be right on the water in Key West it looks like a great place to stay! I’m a sucker for lights.

2. Roosters

Not the best pic but he was on the run. Roosters and chickens roam the streets, walk in and out of restaurants and pretty much go wherever they want in Key West and everyone looks out for them.
  1. Sunsets
I love watching sunsets but they are extra special in the Keys. I could share 10 more sunset photos but I’ll stop here.

  1. My hairdresser recently vacationed in the Keys and she raved about it. Now seeing your post, I know I must go sooner rather than later, if possible. My husband is working at Cape Canaveral next week so I’m going to travel down with him. I love it there too. Basically, anywhere that’s warm and has a beach is a favorite for me. 🙂

  2. OH WOW! I WANT TO COME BY YOU FOR SURE! It’s so very beautiful. Looks like I’m gonna be a pain in the butt for my hubby for a while! hahaha Thanks so much for sharing. I needed that! It’s beautiful & what a cute couple you two are! I’m called NaNa too, but most of the time Nonny! Hugs….

  3. That’s so sweet to go back to the same dock where you first kissed 41 years ago! I’m headed to St. Pete in June-July with Amanda and Jessica. My mom and stepdad are flying us out. They live there permanently now. We already have our tickets and I can’t wait! Thanks for hosting and wishing you a lovely week.

  4. Fun photos! I’ve been to Key West a few times and enjoyed the weather and ambiance there very much. We took sunset cruises which were magnificent and the seafood was so good!
