The Absence of Pain
Have you ever thought about the absence of pain?
Last week my tooth began hurting. Of course as luck would have it, it was the beginning of a 3 day weekend. By Monday all I could think about was getting to the dentist. I went to see him and as I suspected the tooth was abscessed. The lady at the front desk made an appointment for me to get a root canal…..in 2 days. Two days. 48 hours more hours of pain.
One way or another I know this pain will stop. I will either get a root canal or someone (maybe I’ll do it myself!) will pull this tooth. But what if you have a pain that you can’t stop?
I am sure you know someone who suffers with chronic pain. It’s times like this that I get a very small inkling of what they go through on a daily basis. It’s not something that would be easy to deal with.
Different Types of Pain
There is physical pain and there is heartache. Both can cause changes in our disposition and make day to day living a struggle. There is no easy answer for coping with either one. There are good days, bad days and days when everyone could use a shoulder to lean on.
Chances are each and every one of us know someone who is hurting either physically, mentally or spiritually. While we can’t always take away their pain there is always something we can do! Don’t wait to be asked….pray for them and find a way to help. Sometimes just listening can be exactly what the doctor ordered!
Our health is a blessing we often take for granted. If you are blessed with good health then when you say your prayers today include one for the absence of pain and pray for those who deal with it on a daily basis.
