Small Town Girl in an Uptown World

Small Town Girl

Okay, so maybe I’m stretching the truth a bit when I call myself a small town “girl”, but small town nana just doesn’t sound like a Billy Joel song. And I am from a small town. How small is my town? About as small as a town can get and still be a called a town.

When I say I’m in an uptown world I’m talking about Los Angeles County, California where almost 10 million people live. Today we drove down Rodeo Drive (and no we didn’t see any Kardashians. I’m not sure I would recognize them anyway). And we made pictures in front of the Beverly Hills sign. I know that’s a tourist like thing to do but it’s fun. I keep looking around for Jed Clamppet and the rest of the Beverly Hillbillies, but so far I haven’t found him. My husband said that’s because We Are the Beverly Hillbillies.

Bill and I brought our oldest granddaughter with us (she has no clue who the Beverly Hillbillies were) and yesterday we ate at a Taiwanese restaurant. That was a new experience for me. I’m not even sure what I ate but everything came inside a pastry shell (except the green beans and the cucumber salad). I didn’t even attempt chopsticks. I could just imagine shooting food across the aisle to the next table, and believe me it could happen.

I’m assuming that when Billy Joel (there are a lot of “billies” in this post) talked about an uptown girl he meant Christie Brinkley. And I think he was referring to New York-not Los Angeles, but I’m not sure and it doesn’t really matter.

But….

One thing I know for sure, this hillbilly is ready to go home. L A is a nice place to visit and I hope one day I can visit again, but there is NO PLACE like HOME!
