More Life Lessons From Shells on the Beach

Another walk on the beach brought more thoughts and life lessons from shells. The sun was shining brightly and illuminated the shells. One shell looked particularly white, bright white like snow. I picked it up and brought it home only to find that when I placed it next to the other shells it wasn’t as white as I thought it was. When the sun was on it, it was pristine and clean. But when it was in the shade, it was far from perfectly white.

There is only one way to be pure

When we walk in the light as He is in the light we are pure. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 But when we fail to walk in the light John 12:35 Jesus says, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.”

White is only pure when Jesus is shining on it.

Shells on the Beach

Another thing I noticed this morning on my beach walk was while I was busy looking for shells is that my opinion of what makes an interesting shell isn’t the same as the person behind me. Several times I passed up a shell and noticed that the person behind me stopped and picked it up. We all see things differently and we don’t all like the same things and that’s okay when it comes to shells, but when it comes to religion, it’s not okay. The Bible is God’s source of wisdom and knowledge and if we pick up anything other than the Bible as a reference….we aren’t going to get the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

The Search

Finally I noticed that if I took my eyes off my search for shells, even for a second I could miss a unique find. It’s so easy to get distracted in this busy, fast paced world but God expects and needs us to stay focused on his word.

Seek Him with all your heart. I promise it’s a worthwhile journey.

P.S. My aunt sent me this photo of shells and I loved it! Going to try making shell people myself! Who knows maybe I’ll get more life lessons from it!
