Five Fun Activities for Seniors and Grandchildren

Five Fun Activities

Few things in life are as joyous as spending time with your grandchildren. You love being able to hold them when they are only infants and watching them grow up. Now they’re at the age where you can spend quality time with them and begin to build a relationship that will carry with them for the rest of your life. But, how do you entertain someone so young?

Here are a few ideas from NanaHood on things you can do with your grandchildren that are safe and sure to create special memories.

  1. Play Card Games

One of the easiest activities to share with your grandchildren is a game of cards. There are card games for every age and card games will give you a chance to flex your mental muscles while your grandchildren learn valuable skills in matching and arithmetic.

  1. Play Video Games

Another great indoor activity with a slightly more modern twist is playing video games with your grandchildren. With today’s technology, people of all ages can enjoy a wide variety of games. Playing games on a tablet or computer can spark their creativity, and there are lots of games geared at teaching children how to write, read, and do math. Just be sure your internet connection can handle the speed needed to have a smooth gaming experience so your play isn’t interrupted.

  1. Cook or Bake

You have decades of cooking experience under your belt, so why not share that with your grandchildren? Impress them with recipes old and new, and show them what kind of magic you can create in the kitchen. To make your cooking or baking an interactive experience, let them help you measure or mix ingredients. Cooking and baking will help teach valuable lessons in home economics as well as inspire them to make their own meals in the future.

  1. Conduct a Science Experiment

If your grandchild is particularly curious, help foster their sense of discovery with a homegrown science experiment. With a little help from the internet, you can find a whole bunch of science-based activities to capture the imagination of your grandchildren. Many of these projects are super simple and require items you already have at home.

  1. Share Family Photographs

Looking through family photographs is a special way to spend time with your grandchildren. After all, they may have never seen photos of their parent as a child or a family member they never had the chance to meet. Sharing your memories with them will fascinate them as well as show them another side of their parents and insight into what life was like before they were born.

These are just a few ideas of things you can do with your grandchildren. These safe, fun and wholesome ideas are just what you need to get to know your grandchildren a little better and develop a relationship that neither of you will forget.
