Kitty Adventures – A New Family Member
So, I hear we have a lot of cat lovers at NanaHood! We’ve always been tiny dog lovers, but a rescue kitten has moved in. It has been a challenging 6 days but full of fun and adorable moments as well. While it is more than we expected, we are doing our best to figure it out as each day (ok each HOUR) presents something new.
Considering a Kitten
My son began mentioning he wanted a kitten several months ago. Although we enjoyed looking at photos and watching for kitties that may need a home, we never made a final decision. We both tend to have allergies around Baba’s cats (grandma). We also lost two of our three dogs over the last couple years, which had been tough. Plus our remaining baby is quite a handful and very spoiled. So there was a lot to consider.
Making Room for Kitty
Then, last week, Baba brought a rescue kitten, roughly 4 weeks old. Poor little thing was infested with fleas and a tad underweight, but otherwise, had the thumbs up from the vet. It fet a little like having a newborn again, to be honest. The feedings, baths, wiping (ohhhh so much wiping), vacuuming… yep it was like having a baby. 🙂 The kitten came with:
- bottles
- formula
- medications
- toys
- litter and box (thankfully)
- toys
- scratch posts (yes, plural)
- beds (again – plural)
- toys
- and did I mention toys?
And the list goes on for a bit. I could seriously charge an entrance fee and open up a Cat Disneyland in my son’s room.
She made herself at home, and the kitty adventures began. Now, remember, we have always been dog people, so we have no idea what “normal” is with a kitten. For instance, she quickly figured out how to make the closet her personal amusement park. Every time we turn around, she’s in a new spot. I don’t mean darting across the room to a new spot, because obviously, she does that (at the speed of light). I mean……
She can climb up the clothes …
She can find her way into pajama drawers…
She can hide in the smallest opening of the couch ….
And climb to the hamper to play with the drawstrings hanging from pants….
But then there’s also time to snuggle and watch a movie….
Needless to say, most of Ashton’s closet is now located outside in the entryway for the time being!
A Name for Kitty
In an effort to come up with the perfect name, kitty still does not have one yet. Every day sparks new adventures, personality, and challenges, so it’s hard to commit to a name. We are certainly up for suggestions if you have any!
As we head into week two tomorrow, we are exhausted but ready for new adventures with kitty!
