Reading Across the Miles
Many of the grandmothers who visit NanaHood and write to me do not live close to their grandchildren. Frequently they ask me how they can stay close and stay involved with their grands when they live so far away. I have always thought that one of the best things about technology is that it can help foster love and relationships by connecting generations. All we have to do is take advantage of the opportunities it presents!
Now, thanks to a new app called HomeTeam there’s another way to bridge the generation gap. One of my favorite activities (and I bet it’s one of yours too) is reading to my grandchildren. There’s nothing more fun than seeing the delight on their faces as we turn the pages of a book together.
I am fortunate that I live close to all of my grandchildren but I don’t see them every day. On the days when they don’t come over or when I’m traveling, The HomeTeam App allows me to read and play games with them no matter where I am.
One of the best things about this HomeTeam is that there is a FREE 30-day-trial and you don’t have to use a credit card to start trying it out! My oldest granddaughter is 10 and she lives about 15 miles away. I downloaded the HomeTeam App on my Ipad and she downloaded it on hers. We read a book and played some games and she agreed that it was “Super Cool!”
Another thing I like about HomeTeam is the huge selection of books. There are plenty of choices for my 10 year old granddaughter as well as all of my littles (ages 1-3). You can have up to 5 people on your account and remember it’s FREE for 30 days!
My daughter videoed me reading to her 3 year old and I think you can see by the video that she really enjoyed it. If you notice in the left hand corner of the screen she can actually see me reading it while looking at the book. I love that I could see her expressions and we could interact while reading.
I highly recommend HomeTeam for grandparents and parents. When you can’t be with your grandchildren, it’s the next best thing to being there!
