A Mother’s Day Tribute Video, Recipes and Craft

We have another video and post from Martha, our ten year old vlogger. She talked about her Grandma, Mema and Mom in today’s Mother’s Day Tribute video. Check it out below:

Recipes

Martha mentioned she loves to make Banana Bread and Monkey Bread with her Mema. Below are the recipes to make those with YOUR grandchildren. The Monkey Bread is especially easy to make, even with young kids (with supervision). Martha has been making this since she was about 5 years old.

Banana Bread

We have used several different recipes, but this one from SimplyRecipes.com is a very good one.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 very ripe bananas, peeled
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar (1/2 cup if you would like it less sweet, 1 cup if more sweet)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
    .

1 Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), and butter a 4×8-inch loaf pan.

2 In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until completely smooth. Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas.

3 Mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour.

4 Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour at 350°F (175°C), or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean.

5 Remove from oven and cool completely on a rack. Remove the banana bread from the pan. Slice and serve.

Monkey Bread

Ingredients:

2/3 cup granulated sugarmonkey bread for mother's day
2 teaspoons cinnamon
4 cans Pillsbury™ Refrigerated Buttermilk Biscuits
10 tablespoons butter
1 cup packed brown sugar

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease or spray a bundt pan.

Mix sugar and cinnamon in bowl.

Separate dough into biscuits and cut each biscuit into fourths. Roll half of the biscuit pieces in the cinnamon and sugar mixture and place them in the bundt pan.

In a saucepan, bring butter and brown sugar to boiling over medium-high heat; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Pour half of this mixture over the biscuit pieces in the bundt pan.

Repeat with the second half the biscuit pieces, and pour the remaining butter/brown sugar syrup over the top.

Bake 30 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes.

Turn upside downon a plate. The monkey bread pieces are easy to pull apart to eat!

Be sure to WASH YOUR PAN immediately, as the sugar syrup will solidify on the pan if you don’t.

Mother’s Day Craft

Martha also mentioned a Mother’s Day Craft that she will be making for her mom. She chose this from Foam Flower project from Plain Vanilla Mom
