The New You and Improved Diet by Keri Glassman

New You and Improved Diet

This week I had the privilege of interviewing Keri Glassman, the author of The New You And Improved Diet; 8 simple rules to lose weight.  Kerri is a nationally recognized nutrition expert and the founder and president of Keri Glassman, Nutritious Life, which is a nutrition practice based in New York City. Keri is a leader in the “whole person” approach to health and wellness. She is also a member of Women’s Health Magazine advisory board  and writes a popular monthly column called “Lighten Up” and a page called “Flat Belly Day”.

Side bar:  As the mom of 5 (including a set of twins) I think “flat belly day” is an impossible dream for me!

Please say “hello” to Kerri Glassman!

New You and Improved Diet

I began by asking Keri if there was a difference in the nutritional needs of women as they age and she assured me that the core of healthy eating is basically the same. Good nutrition is important at all ages and stages of a woman’s life.

Keri mentioned the  “whole person” approach to nutrition several times during the interview so I asked her to explain.

Treating the Whole Person

According to Keri each of her 8 rules supports the others. The more you sleep, the more energy you have at the gym, the more weight you lose. The more you choose nutrient-dense food, the more focused your workouts become, the deeper you sleep. If you don’t sleep well or get enough sleep then it can get your hormones all out of whack.

“The fact is, if you don’t look at all of these other areas of your life, it doesn’t matter how great that meal plan is, how motivated you are or that grocery list you have, you’re not going to lose weight. But, if you focus on all of these other areas of your life, you’re going to lose weight and become healthier almost automatically,” she said.

The New You and Improved Diet shows you how to make connections between the 8 rules in a way that is easy to understand and implement. The book includes detailed menus, recipes, and tons of simple tips to help individuals stay focused.

Keri also discussed heart health and the importance of Ubiquinol.  I had never heard of Ubiquinol before so I asked her to explain it to me.

The Importance of Ubiquinol

“Ubiquinol not only helps to support your body’s energy production, but it’s also considered one of the strongest antioxidants available,” she said.  “It  can be found in foods such as meat and fish, but in very low amounts.  It is especially beneficial for heart health because it assists in maintaining the normal oxidative state of LDL cholesterol, helps assure circulatory health, and supports optimal functioning of the heart muscle.”

When you consider that according to the Women’s Heart Foundation

*267,000 women die each year from heart attacks

*heart attacks kill six times as many women as breast cancer

*another 31,837 women die each year of congestive heart failure

I think Ubiquinol is important for a large segment of our population. Don’t you?

Drink Water and Eat Fresh!

Keri also stressed the importance of drinking lots of water to stay hydrated and choosing fresh, organic fruits and vegetables over packaged foods.

I enjoyed interviewing Keri and have some great news for my readers. One lucky person will win a free copy of her book in NanaHood’s upcoming Mother’s Day contest!

Come back on the 29th to register. There are several different prizes you might win!
