The Fountain of Youth for Nanas and Moms
Occasionally I want to post some articles that will help you (and me) take better care of ourselves. This article was written by a dear friend, former student, and now the best chiropractor in town, Dr. Kelly Scatena. Thanks, Kelly for telling my readers where to find the fountain of youth!
There is a potion that magically strips away pounds from your body, improves your overall health, lengthens your life, makes you more attractive to the opposite sex, and slows down the aging process. Even better, you can have as much of this magic potion as you want, for free! What is this magical elixir? It’s water.
Water is crucial to your health. It makes up, on average, 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. Without water, the average person would only live 10 days.
What exactly does water do for your body?
1. Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. Studies have shown that people who drink the most water have the highest metabolisms.
2. Water cleanses our body. It promotes the efficiency of blood circulation to help expel the toxins out of the body.
3. Dry skin is one of the signs of an aging body. Drinking plenty of water is the secret to staying young and is imperative for someone who wants to slow down the signs of aging such as dry skin.
4. Water plays a key role in healing the body and disease prevention. Approximately 75% of the American population is chronically dehydrated. Chronic dehydration can lead to high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, allergies, digestive disorders and acid reflux, just to name a few!
There are several ways to determine if you are dehydrated. If you become thirsty, then you are already slightly dehydrated. Try lightly pinching the skin on the back of your hand. It should instantly go back to normal. Any delay, with the skin staying in a fold/peak where you pinched, is a sign of moderate to severe dehydration. Urine color is another indicator. Pale yellow or clear is normal; anything darker and you are dehydrated and must drink immediately.
Do yourself a favor, put down the sodas, the juices, and the coffee. Grab a glass of the fountain of youth instead.Drinking water really is the best thing you can do to improve your health and appearance.
Thanks again, Kelly! And one more little bit of news before I go. Yesterday I received an email with the following message: NanaHood and The Nana Blogs were included in “The 50 Best Blogs By and About Grandparenting” at http://msndegree.com/the-50-best-blogs-by-and-about-grandparenting
How cool is that? And what a great Birthday Present for NanaHood and The Nana Blogs!
Great, so glad you passed! Keep drinking that water!
Good for you, Michelle! Keep drinking that water!
I keep a aluminum bottle on my desk all day and keep it full! It was just a habit that I developed and it is much better for me than coffee and soda.
Great tips. I love water. I did the pinch test on my hand and I passed!
