Random Thursday Thoughts from NanaHood
Read the following random thoughts and choose one question to answer. (This is my way of asking you to please leave a comment. I love hearing from you!
My senior trip was to a Cincinnati Reds baseball game. We drove for hours, watched a baseball game (I’m not a fan) and game straight home. Nothing much memorable about it. Yesterday my boys left for their senior trip. They boarded a bus to Florida and are going to Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center and the beach. I’m guessing they will have a lot more fun than I did.
Where was your Senior Trip and did you have fun?
This morning I woke up and I was so tired and sleepy I couldn’t get my eyes to focus. I poured my Rice Krispies in a bowl, sliced up a banana in it and added sugar….I thought.
Turns out it was flour, not sugar. Yuck!
Question 2.
What’s the biggest goof up you’ve ever made in the kitchen?
Last Saturday I hosted an egg hunt.
At one point several of the kids put their buckets or baskets over their heads for entertainment.
Question 3
Why do we buy our children or grandchildren expensive toys when most of the time they had rather have a stick, a bucket or a box to play with?
And finally, Mother’s Day is May 8th. My favorite Mother’s Day gift was a plastic plate my son decorated for me when he was about 8. He drew a picture of our family on it and wrote the following words, “Happy Mother’s Day. I love you mom. You are so nice. You even loved me….When I had lice.”
Question 3.
What was your favorite Mother’s Day gift and why?
And finally….

Thanks for commenting Becky! The cookies sound interesting>>!
Love ya Gaye, you are such a sweetie. And yes, I understand about Mother’s Day….I think it’s a tribute to them that even after all this time, our hearts still ache and the tears still come.
1. My Senior Trip was to Beech Bend Park! We stayed all day and had a great time. The most memorable thing was some of the guys passed 8 track tapes ( that they had shop lifted) back and forth between cars going down I-65 @ 70 MPH.
2. I have made several really bad goofs in the kitchen. One of the worst was when I was probably in 6th or 7th grade and my brother & I were making popcorn balls. He was reading me the recipe and said 4 Tablespoons of baking soda instead of 1/4 teaspoon. Even the dog would not eat them. Another was making fried pies for my brand new husband. I did not know you had to cook the fruit before putting it in the dough! Very chewy and not quite as good as his mothers!
3. Lots of good Mother’s Day gifts. I could not pick the best for should one of my 4 sons read this and the gift was not from him, I would be in BIG trouble!
4. Mother’s Day is not a good day for me and you know why. Even though I am blessed with 4 wonderful children and two grandchildren, Mother’s Day has not been the same for me since my mother died. The worse part each year is the song “If I could hear my Mother Pray Again” is always sung on Mother’s Day at my church. The tears always come.
1) My senior class went to Florida – I decided not to attend. I still think this was a good decision for me – no regrets. lol
2) I put a cup of baking soda in cookies instead of 1 teaspoon. They were a good antiacid. lol
3) Too many great gifts over the years – from crayon drawings to jewlery and clothes. The one gift that stands out would have to be the rocker Eddie gave me on my very first Mother’s Day.
4) Email Sent and I could have entered more than one person – I am blessed to know several really great Moms!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts – I always enjoy your writings!!
I’m here all the time, Teresa. I guess some of your blogs don’t really call for response.
Question one: never went on a school trip
Two: as a kid I used lemon cleaner instead of lemon extract in a dessert I was making for my mom.
Three: a friend of mine makes great packaging for party favor gifts for just that reason.
Four: nobody ever gave me a mother’s day gift. Sniff :0)
The mother I’d nominate died a year and half ago.
