Diary of a Wimpy Kid Review and Medicine Man Review

I don’t claim to be a professional movie reviewer, but I am a Nana who likes decent movies (as opposed to indecent) and so when I run across something that other moms and nanas might like to watch I want to share it with you. Anymore you can’t just Google “Family Movies” and expect them to be appropriate for the family. Truthfully, just watching television with children can be down right embarrassing. I’m still not over an incident that happened at Christmas. I was watching “White Christmas” with my granddaughter on AMC and in the middle of the movie was a condom commercial! I was so mad I couldn’t even finish the movie!

Deep breath, calm down and back to the movie review!

The first movie I want to tell you about is actually not new by any stretch of the imagination but it’s one I missed  when it came out and it’s worth watching. It’s called “Medicine Man” (1992)  and it stars Sean Connery and Lorraine Bracco. It’s PG-13 and has National Geographic like nudity of the natives, so depending on the age of your grandchildren or children you might not want feel comfortable with this. I was watching with my 10 month old granddaughter and so obviously she is still too young for questions. Now if the seven year old had been around…that would have been a different story. It’s a decent movie with an interesting plot (who doesn’t want a cure for cancer!) and I found it entertaining and a great way to pass a rainy afternoon. You can purchase it on Amazon or download from Netflex.

The second movie is one my seven year old granddaughter brought with her when she came to visit and we watched together. I had heard of the book, but didn’t know there was a movie. I found it entertaining and a fun movie to watch with my granddaughter. It gave me a great way to talk to her about peer pressure and the importance of being honest and obeying her parents. Yes, she’s only seven but believe me, they mature fast these days! This movie is PG and   other than some disobedience to parents (lying-which is what I discussed at length with my granddaughter) it was appropriate for a seven year old and we had a great time watching it together.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Review

What are some movies you have enjoyed watching with your children and grandchildren lately? Here’s a clip from the Wimpy Kid movie. FYI-I taught social studies at a middle school…perhaps that’s why I loved this movie!

  1. I know what you mean about commercials. Even Progressive insurance has this commercial where it is implied that Flo and her client are lovers in the rain…my kids are riveted to the tv when that comes on….geeze….We never saw Medicine Man, but did enjoy Diary of Wimpy Kid.

  2. Oh Medicene Man with Sean Connery…good! When I first watched it I didn’t like his attitude so I quit watching it. Then I watched it again and this time I realized why he was upset. It was a good movie for sure and Connery is my favorite actor. We like the Muppets Christmas Carol, our all time favorite. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, with Sean Connery, is good as well. We watched these with our older, teens. Fun!
