Amazing Nanas in the News
Amazing Nanas
I love reading stories about grandmothers who either do exceptional things, or have unusual things happen to them. Here are a few recent news stories I thought you might enjoy.
Cindy Singley saw an ad advertising martial arts lessons. Three of her grandchildren signed up and so did she! This 62 year old nana now has a black belt in Taekwondo. As if that isn’t amazing enough, she had to pause her lessons for a time because she had to fight cancer. Once she beat that then she went right back to Taekwondo and gained the black belt status. You can read more about Cindy here courtesy of ABC affiliate in Bloomington, Illinois.
Happy Birthday Grandma!
Turning 100 is definitely a milestone and this grandmother never suspected that someone famous would be singing Happy Birthday to her. It’s worth watching the few seconds of ads to see Grandma Grover’s reaction as The Rock serenades her.
Don’t Throw Away Those Recipes
Did you know that in Uganda, Jajja means grandparent? According to Henry Kisitu it means more than just a grandmother. It’s more somebody who has wisdom, somebody who has seen a lot of things. That’s why we use the name Jajja because we know she’s always … her presence is always there.
And that’s why Kisitu (who is an immigrant from Uganda) named his new business Jajja Wellness. His grandmother taught him how to make various tonics. Kisitu lives in Minnesota and started his business using his grandmothers recipes. She died a few years ago but her memory lives on through her tonics. You can read more about the tonic here on their webpage.
Do you know an amazing Nana (besides yourself)? If so I would love to hear about her. Leave a comment and share about an amazing nana you know!
